Maderotherapy comes from Colombia and its principle is unusually straightforward: instead of hands, the therapist works with a set of wooden tools: ridged rollers, contoured paddles and a squared cup. Each has its own job, and together they apply steadier and deeper pressure to the subcutaneous tissue than a human hand can sustain for a whole treatment.
Once the skin is warmed and oiled, your therapist moves zone by zone. Ridged rollers mobilise the surface layer and get the lymph moving, smooth paddles model the contour and push toward the lymph nodes, and the squared cup works the deeper layer over buttocks and thighs. The rhythm is regular and intensity builds gradually. The first minutes should never sit at the edge of what you can take.
Maderotherapy is a course treatment, not a one-off. A typical cycle runs five to ten sessions a few days apart, supported by drinking enough water and moving regularly. Combined with lymphatic drainage or an apparatus treatment, results are noticeably better than from maderotherapy alone. Your therapist will help you plan it at the first consultation.

Does maderotherapy cause bruising? Not at correctly judged pressure. Small bruises occasionally appear in people with fragile capillaries or on blood thinners, so please tell us in advance if that is you.
How many sessions are needed? A typical cycle is five to ten treatments a few days apart. A single visit brings circulation to the area but will not change measurements.
How is it different from anti-cellulite massage? The tools and the consistency. Wooden tools hold the same pressure throughout and reach deeper; hands read how the tissue responds more sensitively. They work best combined.
